Premier League Review: Van Dijk inspires Liverpool win, Manchester City falter

Liverpool remain on course for a first ever Premier League title after a nervy 2-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion, while Manchester City could only manage a 2-2 draw at Newcastle United.

Jurgen Klopp s side endured a tense finish at Anfield after goalkeeper Alisson was dismissed with 14 minutes remaining, but they held on for a 13th win in 14 games this season.

City, meanwhile, were far from their fluid best at St James Park and were denied a vital win by Jonjo Shelvey s superb late strike.

Jose Mourinho racked up a second consecutive Premier League win since taking over at Tottenham, Dele Alli proving to be the star man in a 3-2 win over Bournemouth, while West Ham pulled off a surprise 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Man Utd boss Solskjaer: More to Fernandes than penalties

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hailed Bruno Fernandes after his scintillating brace inspired a 4-1 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League.

Fernandes scored twice as United routed Turkish champions Basaksehir at Old Trafford on Tuesday to remain top of Group H ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig through four matchdays.

United star Fernandes scored twice in the opening 19 minutes, including a stunning half-volley – the Portugal midfielder directly involved in 34 goals in 35 appearances (21 goals, 13 assists) since debuting in February, 16 more than any other player at the club in that period.

Of Fernandes goals, 12 have come from penalties in all competitions, and Solskjaer insisted there is more to the 26-year-old than s…

Manchester United 9-0 Southampton: Red Devils obliterate nine-man Saints

Manchester United got back to winning ways in the Premier League by obliterating nine-man Southampton 9-0 at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

After following a shock home loss to Sheffield United with a goalless draw at Arsenal, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer s side responded in record-equalling style after young Alex Jankewitz had been sent off within two minutes of kick-off.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka opened the scoring before Marcus Rashford ended a six-game run without a league goal, with the contest effectively killed before half-time through a Jan Bednarek own goal and a header from Edinson Cavani.

Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes, Daniel James and a double from Anthony Martial in the second half, with Bednarek also dismissed, helped the Red Devils match their bigge…

Juventus 1-1 Roma: Abraham cancels out Vlahovic stunner as both sides remain unbeaten

Tammy Abraham turned in a goal assisted by Paulo Dybala as Roma battled to a 1-1 draw at Juventus to leave both sides unbeaten after three Serie A matches.

Roma had won their first two games without conceding but were behind to a sublime Dusan Vlahovic free-kick after 76 seconds – the forward s fastest strike in the competition.

After being held to a 0-0 draw by Sampdoria last time out, Juve looked far brighter in an attacking sense and had a second goal through Manuel Locatelli contentiously ruled out.

Jose Mourinho s side hit back in the second half when ex-Juve man Dybala s apparent attempt at goal turned into an assist for Abraham, meaning the points were shared in Turin.

Vlahovic managed just eight touches of the ball in last week s stalemate wit…

Dan-Axel Zagadou is set to join Stuttgart as a free agent, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The defender joined Borussia Dortmund from the youth setup at Paris Saint-Germain back in 2017, and went on to make a total of 92 appearances for the German club in all competitions before seeing his contract run out this summer.

Still only 23, Zagadou was reportedly targeted by West Ham, Olympique Lyon, Inter Milan and AS Roma, but it seems his preference was always to remain in the Bundesliga. The agreement with Stuttgart appears imminent at this point, and the medical ahead of the completion of the transfer should take place some time this week.
