Slot not entertaining title talk as Liverpool go top

Arne Slot believes it is too early to speak of his Liverpool side as title contenders after they ran out 2-1 winners at Wolves to go top of the Premier League.

Ibrahim Konate had given Slot’s men the lead on the stroke of half-time but the home side levelled soon after the restart through Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Moments later, Nathan Semedo bundled over Diogo Jota in the penalty area and Mohamed Salah made no mistake from the spot to continue his and Liverpool’s fine start to the season.

The Egyptian has now scored 10 winning goals in the competition from the spot, only bettered by Alan Shearer with 12 and Frank Lampard with 18.

Despite going top, Slot insisted it was too early to speak of his side as title contenders, with just six league games played.

Euro 2020: Senol Gunes says Turkey ´lost control´ against Italy

Turkey head coach Senol Gunes says his side lost control of the game after conceding the first goal in Friday s 3-0 loss to Italy in the opening game of Euro 2020.

The Crescent Stars defended well in the first half, playing a counter-attacking style, with the game goalless at the break.

Turkey added a bit more adventure in the second half, opening themselves up when Domenico Berardi s 53rd minute cutback deflected in off Merih Demiral.

Italy took complete control of the game from there, with further strikes from Ciro Immobile and Lorenzo Insigne.

We started to lose the ball and couldn t get forward. Italy were better – we lost to the better team, Gunes said.

They were more dominant than us, we lost the ball so many times and this just gave the…

Pochettino has earned time to rebuild Chelsea, says Heskey

Emile Heskey will be stunned if Mauricio Pochettino isn t given time to rebuild Chelsea, who are beginning to show signs of life under the former Tottenham boss.

Chelsea have spent over £1billion in the transfer market in 18 months since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over, and they have been inconsistent since embarking on another spending spree ahead of Pochettino s first campaign in charge.

After a below-par start under the Argentine, Chelsea have shown encouraging signs in recent weeks, thrashing nine-man Tottenham 4-1 in a remarkable London derby before playing out a thrilling 4-4 draw with Manchester City on Sunday.

That latter game – the first in the Premier League to feature four equalising goals since Liverpool and Arsenal s iconic 4-4 draw in…

Ghana qualify for 2010 World Cup finals

Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien scored as Ghana defeated Sudan 2-0 in Accra Sunday to become the first African qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Inter Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari gave the Black Stars an early lead and Essien added a second soon after half-time, unleashing a drive that flew into the net at the near post.

The result coupled with closest challengers Benin and Mali drawing 1-1 in Cotonou a few hours before left a Ghanaian side boasting a 100 percent record with an unassailable seven-point Group D advantage.

It will be the second successive World Cup appearance for Ghana, who did best of the five African teams in Germany three years ago by reaching the knockout second round before losing 3-0 to defending champions Brazil.

Fulham 2-2 Liverpool: Main Talking Points As Jurgen Klopp’s Side Open The 2022/23 Campaign With A Stutter

While Liverpool might have been looking to open the 2022/23 Premier League campaign with a statement on the road, Jurgen Klopp s side eventually had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Fulham.

Missing out on defending their domestic crown by a single point last season, the Reds had to come from behind twice against the top-flight returners on Saturday lunchtime.

Although the attacking duo of Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah might have both got themselves on the scoresheet at Craven Cottage, Liverpool will feel like they missed out on a golden chance here.

With Aleksandar Mitrović finding the net on either side of the half-time break, few would have expected such a rugged display from the Cottagers.

In a showdown between two sides who are expected to be battl…

Majority of Premier League clubs profitable in 2013-14

Only one Premier League club did not earn an operating profit in the 2013-14 season, a Deloitte review has revealed.

Clubs in the English top flight were beneficiaries of a new broadcast rights cycle in Manchester City s title-winning season, with £3.26 billion of revenue generated collectively a rise of 29 per cent from the season prior.

Partner with Deloitte s Sports Business Group, Dan Jones said the TV rights deal was key to securing profit for clubs in the top tier.

As a result, 19 of the 20 Premier League sides recorded an operating profit, and 14 of those banked a pre-tax profit.

The impact of the Premier League s broadcast deal is clear to see, Jones said via a statement.

NFL Underdogs: NFL Odds, Picks and Predictions Week 18

I’ve spent the bulk of this week packing away the holiday decorations, stripping the Christmas tree bare, and jamming my 6-foot-4 frame into our storage space under the stairs for a real-life game of Tetris.

It seems like only yesterday that I was hunched over inside that tiny hideaway, hauling out those same bins and boxes while “Die Hard 2” played on the TV in the next room.

The holidays come and go faster than you can say, “Oh shit, the power bill”- much like the NFL season.

I can’t believe we’ve reached our NFL Week 18 point spread picks already. Despite having an extra week of NFL betting this year, the regular season blew past us like Ja’Marr Chase in one-on-one coverage. And now we sit on the …
